Coco Varda Radio
6pm-7pm
2nd Saturday of the Month
My name is Coco Varda. I am a Canadian visual artist, performer, bedroom-pop producer and keys player in CQ (Chappaqua) Wrestling. I have a passion for discovering and producing experimental electronic and pop music. I moved to the UK in 2015, drawn in by the rave culture, the British sense of humour and a Wetherspoon’s full English breakfast.
I began producing music and performing in 2017 in the Norwich avant-garde drag and improvisational sonic art scenes. My journey led me to Brighton in 2019, where I completed a Master’s in Digital Music and Sound Art at the University of Brighton, focusing my studies on gender identity in music.
In 2020, I was introduced to 1BTN and given the opportunity to become a presenter. The station has since provided me with a platform that I have shared with my talented friends from our community, to promote the music of local artists from the queer and experimental electronic music scenes of Brighton. It has also been a space for me to showcase the dreamy, strange, whimsical, campy, dynamic, intense and ethereal music that I adore and that informs my work as an artist and performer.
My influences include: Enya, Aphex Twin, Laurie Anderson, Peaches, Arca, Eartheater, Grimes, SOPHIE, Cocteau Twins, Kelly Lee Owens, Blue Hawaii and Miss Bashful
