NEW MUSIC TO PSYCHEDELIC NOMADS BIRDS OF PANDAEMONIUM

BOP 1

You know of our love for Our Starry Universe Records out of Brooklyn, right? It’s a label we have championed from the get go and it’s a label we feel you should check out too. There’s another stellar release due and it comes courtesy of nomadic psychedelic collective, Birds Of Pandæmonium.
BOP is led by Millennium Culkin and Hazy James. Taking simple songs of raw emotion then refracted through their maximalist, tripped out lens. The Birds are out to craft sonic collages for the new love renaissance. Exploring the darkness while pursuing light.

Their debut, a hypnotic, transcendent slice of psychedelia “Days Go By” was a summer favorite of Lauren Laverne (BBC6), Tim Sweeney, Sean Johnston, 1BTN and many more! Their follow up EP, Out For You, pairs two anthemic, sprawling, psychedelic singles each with pounding remixes suited for the dancefloor. First up from the EP is “The Night”, dropping 16 April 2021, to be followed shortly by the full vinyl release on 14 May 2021. Expect another single or two throughout the year as Birds prepare for their full length in 2022.

Continuing to seek the positive in the face of the mutable and inevitable, your favorite hippy goths, Hazy James & Millennium Culkin, are back with a double single/double remix EP “Out For You.” It’s the new follow up to their thuddingly ethereal, transcendent psychedelic debut, Days Go By… which became a bit of a summer anthem last year due to heavy support from Lauren Laverne on BBC6 & the crew at 1BTN.

First up on the EP, title track, “Out For You” is an anthemic belter filled with ripping guitars (two solos….wtf?!), pounding arpeggiated bass, 808 drops, plus a dreamy break filled with slide guitars that rumble, build and explode underneath Hazy James’ airy falsetto. Designed for arena madness and soundtracking your moments of catharsis.

Not satisfied with just arena filling vibes, Each Other (Justin Strauss and Max Pask) take the original and twist it into a different experience which should really only be beamed down from a DJ booth orbiting the Earth to a fully global dance party. File this in the “Peak Time Festival” folder.

Flipping over to the b-side, the energy is high but the feeling a little colder on “The Night” – a chugging, introspective, escapist anthem for anytime the sun goes down. Sonically it’s a little goth-punk and a little bit acid house. (Alt: Sonically it’s got a little goth-punk flavor with some acid-house taste) This is the first song on the playlist for your journey to a destination not yet known, just any-fucking-where but here.

NY icon, Juan MacLean picks up remixing duties and turns in a taut, lean, dark, body moving machine. Shimmering synth lines cascade over a rough hypnotic beat, conjuring memories of Maceo Plex hammering to a packed, smokey floor at Trade.
