Gig Guide #001 – March 2017

Hello!
Welcome to the first of our bi-weekly gig guides.  We’ll be bringing you details of all the bands to check and where you can find our DJs every weekend (and others too, we’re not afraid to spread the word!). If you have a gig you’d like us to include then email: info@1brightonfm.co.uk and put ‘Gig Guide’ in the subject box.

02/03/2017 Pinegrove – The Haunt
pinegrove
There are few better ways to start your month than with Pinegrove who are playing The Haunt. Pinegrove are hot right now, touring on the back of the release of last year’s album ‘Cardinal’. At times Pinegrove sound like a lo-fi bedroom band but, curiously, with strong production beefing things up. We reckon this is sure to be decent. The band are getting lots of positive support in the UK indie press so be sure to get along tonight!

03/03/2017 International Women’s Day Gig: Young Adventurers – The Green Door Store

Young Adventurers are a three piece all female trio from Exeter who released the great ‘Short Sighted’ EP late last year ‘Short Sighted’ has echoes of 90’s riot grrl and the hooks of mid noughties indie. The Young Adventurers are possibly the perfect band to top the bill of Femrock’s International Women’s Day gig and there will be loads of other great all female DIY bands. At £4 it’s a steal, be sure to check out the bands EP ‘Short Sighted’ in the link below.

04/03/2017 Mitski – The Haunt

Japanese-American Mitski is touching down in Brighton in support of her fourth studio album, the highly acclaimed ‘Puberty2’. Mitski has been getting top reviews in UK indie press lately and has been gaining momentum so she’s bringing a live show that we expect to match up to the hype.  With a full band touring with her from overseas Mitski guarantees a much larger, bolder live sound.

Mitski is approaching the end of her UK tour with a spot at The Haunt.

Throughout the tour Mitski has been playing songs from across her discography, often switching between full band performance and solo sets.  We reckon  this could be a gem of a gig.

05/03/2017 Porridge Radio – The Green Door Store

Brighton favourites Porridge Radio have been causing quite a storm on the local scene, gaining the band a reputation for their live shows. With their first full-length release ‘Rice Pasta & Other Fillers’ released in 2016 – following on the heels of the earlier ‘Misery Radio’ – we reckon Porridge Radio are sure to deliver a strong live set. These guys are among those names that bloggers are oozing over so be sure to catch the band tearing up the venues around town before they take off.

07/03/2017 Meilyr Jones – The Hope & Ruin

Meilyr Jones’ could be described as sounding theatrical, although that comparison may not do his sound, which is so flamboyant and gutsy with strong pop melodies, justice. It’s a bold sound and it’s a pleasant surprise to see Meilyr play one of Brighton’s more intimate (although a firm favourite of ours) venues. It promises to be a night full of dancing, drinking and great tunes… What more could you want?

11/03/2017 Dutch Uncles – The Haunt
image5
Indie poppers Dutch Uncles are fresh off the release of their latest album ‘Big Balloon’ which was released last month. Popular with a fair few of the DJs here on 1 Brighton FM and often compared to bands such as XTC and Talking Heads the band certainly deliver.  They have a quirky jagged sound full of lush choruses and we’d be prepared to bet that you’ll leave with earworms swimming in your ears for an age!
