Saul Guud here!

My passion for music really started with the bass, in a band of skateboarders in 1990, which then led to exploring funk and jazz to discover the best artistry on an instrument to learn from.

Alongside this was the explosion of acid house, and whilst living in New Jersey I was listening to house and techno broadcasts from clubs in New York City. Moving back to the UK, my first DJ gig was in 1993 playing Detroit influenced techno and house in Sloane Square, but it was the profound influence of Metalheadz Sunday Sessions at Blue Note that turned into years of dedication to drum and bass as a DJ, promoter and producer under the name Insight.

I was fortunate to gain releases on 13 labels, plus support from the likes of Fabio, Shy FX, Goldie, Marcus Intalex, Klute, Flight, Bailey, Mary Ann Hobbs and many more. And, tipped by 1XTRA as ‘one to watch’ in 2005. Producing opened many opportunities to DJ at clubs and festivals all over the UK, Europe and the USA, but the love for funk and bass playing never went away, always informing production and allowing me to keep regular residencies in many bars and clubs around Brighton for over 20 years, exploring funk, hip hop, soul, broken beat and house.

After almost five years of doing shows as Rockit Soul on 1BTN, playing festivals such as We Out Here, Glastonbury, Good Vibrations and others, moving forward – with a glance over the shoulder – my new name is Saul Guud, a new format and a fresh sound as The Soulful Sound Wave. Still inspired and excited after all these years, going right back to where it started as a DJ with Detroit and NYC, sounds heavily inspired by 1990s UK that has forged much of where we are today.

The Soulful Sound Wave is a place to explore, share and celebrate all things soulful, with no boundaries and no restrictions on time or genre, but with a foundation in house, broken beat, afro house and jazz influenced electronica.
