Growing up in the hinterlands of deepest Epsom, like most suburban kids I couldn’t wait to move to the city. 20 years of London living schooled me in numerous ways and provided my musical and nightlife education. Kiss FM, Notting Hill Carnival, Good Times, Aba Shanti, Bar Rhumba, Plastic People, Nuphonic, Soul Jazz, Sounds of the Universe, Honest Jons, Reckless Records, Faith, Jah Shaka, Brilliant Corners, Dalston warehouses, N16 basements…. endless inspiration and late night perspiration.
As a DJ I’ve been lucky enough to play alongside legends like Gilles Peterson, Theo Parrish, Abdul Forsyth, The Unabombers and in 2015 I started my own night VERSION. Inspired by Francois Kevorkian’s Deep Space party in New York, VERSION is dedicated to dub music in all its forms, from reggae to disco, house to techno and beyond.
But the sea was calling and in 2016 my family headed south to Hove and a new chapter began.
On my 1BTN show I play all styles, always with a strong VERSION foundation, and my studio guests over the years have included DJ Milo, Gilles Peterson, Patrick Forge, Carleen Anderson, Zara McFarlane, Heidi Lawden, Anna Arnone, Isabelle Brown, Nat Birchall, Joe Armon-Jones, Kokoroko, Skinny Pelembe, Mildlife, Martin Duffy, Richard Spaven, Swifty, Mitchy Bwoy, Ben Wilcox, Pyjaen, Penya… and many more.
