I was born in the centre of London to Caribbean parents, raised in a melting pot of culture with a collaboration of sounds. From Marvin Gaye to Bob Marley & The Wailers, Dennis Brown, the upbeat of Ska from The Skatalites and Madness would all flow through the sound systems at family functions. New sounds soon spilled through radios on small phone speakers; a distant memory, moments with friends that held the likes of grime, garage and house.
I was in a group of fellow musicians who gave me an invite into audio recording in studios and doing live shows, progressing my love for jazz greats like Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Coltrane and Nat King Cole and Funk from Earth, Wind and Fire, Fela Kuti and The Gap Band! Hearing legendary innovators like Frankie Knuckles and J dilla, who fused the classics I heard growing up, inspired me to DJ and create my own sound. Gathering these influences, I decided to curate a show where homage is paid to good music, the culture in which it was created and the pioneers who helped us all find our groove.
