Hello! I’m Alex Downey, and for over 3 decades I’ve been buying,
selling, DJing and obsessively collecting techno, house, and quality
electronic music in all its forms. I co-managed the much-loved Brighton
record store, Covert, 1997- 2006, during which time I was lucky enough
to be exposed to some of the most incredible electronic music from
Detroit, Chicago, UK, Berlin and beyond on a daily basis. Meanwhile,
I’ve DJ’d alongside some of my greatest heroes – like Laurent Garnier,
Ben Sims, Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke and Underground Resistance – at clubs
& festivals including Berghain Säule, Houghton, Labyrinth, Fabric,
Waking Life and Concrete. I’ve travelled to Portugal, Belgium, Spain,
Berlin, Amsterdam, and Paris to perform, and am honoured to be part of
the Freerotation family, playing at the revered festival nearly every
year since it’s inception. I also continue to spread the techno gospel
via my online store, Temple of Vinyl, housing a monolithic amount of
records at my unit here in Brighton.
For my show Voyage De Lux on 1BTN, I aim to showcase what I think is the
most interesting electronic music around, whether it’s brand new,
classic, or somewhere in between. The luxury of a radio show allows me
to spread the net wider than a typical club or festival set, and take a
proper journey into the far reaches of my collection. Every show is
unplanned, unedited, and a true pleasure to put together, so I hope
you’ll join me when you can.
