Walking Down Alfreton Road
Running Circle presents DJ and producer Guohan, Born in Ningbo, China, Guohan grew up in a navy base surrounded by ancient rock carvings. Here he became obsessed with nature, sound and mythical tales. After moving to fast developing cities like Shanghai, the experiences pushed him to explore the beauty of noise and chaos. Guohan moved to Nottingham in 2011, where his dusty grooves and prodigious ears soon drew the attention of local pioneers Crazy P, DiY and Mimm. He’s since worked on releases with Brownswood & First Word. Guohan also plays alongside Pete Beardsworth and Tom Towle in Three Body, whose eponymous EP dropped in March on Nottingham’s charity record label, Spirit Wrestlers.
Guohan drops his debut LP ‘Lost Sound Book’ to Running Circle Records (Yazmin Lacey/Daisy Godfrey/Pete Beardsworth) in Jan 21. The 16 track publication charters an otherworldly inward journey, with influences ranging from ancestral rock carvings to bustling city streets, mythical tales to sunrise and sunset. Guohan draws from many places and cultures, hip-hop and jazz, traditional music and everyday life, documenting the moods and colours left out from today’s society. The fractured rhythms and harmonies on Lost Sound Book feel like a reconstruction of memories and missing links.
The first single release ‘Walking Down Alfreton Road’ drops on Fri 13th Nov. A four to the floor collage of deep and delicate percussion, channeling the vibrant energy of a city intersection. Walking down Alfreton Road you will encounter Turkish baklava, Ethiopian buna, neon lights and wild-eyed late-night pedestrians.
