Soul Emporium

7pm-9pm

1st Tuesday of the Month

Neil and Affy’s musical roots go back to the glory days of disco and soul. Both have a been DJing and promoting since the 80’s and their mutual love of music brought them together as the Mr & Mr disco and soul tag team The Soul Emporium.

Neil’s early influences was the music being produced from Philly and Chicago which were being played in the underground soul clubs, all dayers and weekenders in the 70’s and 80’s. As soon as he was able to, Neil started collecting vinyl and putting on his own events in London, Surrey and Sussex under the name of Soul Survivor and performing at Caister Soul Weekenders in the 80’s and 90’s. The joy of singing gospel music led him to establish Souled Out choir in Brighton in 2009; the choir regularly perform with a live band in and around town with artists such as Jocelyn Brown and vocalists from the London gospel scene.

Affy is one half of the house and disco outfit Go Bang, who have been putting on events and festivals in Sussex, London and much further afield since 2005. Before that Affy was an established DJ and promoter in his own right.  Starting off in London in the late 80’s with residency at the Brain and Milk Bar before moving to Brighton where he has supported nearly all the visiting big name DJs and put on large scale festivals. However his first musical love remains disco. A genre that has influenced most of his performances in one way or another.

Establishing the Soul Emporium is Affy and Neil’s chance to go back to where their roots started and indulge in their love of music together.
