BUNKER BUZZ CHART MARCH

An amazing amount of killer choonage this month as the 2019 release schedule gets into full swing. Here are the essential cuts at the beginning of March as selected by the 1BTN DJs. A Spotify version of this playlist is available here

Andrew Wasylyk
The Paralian
(Athens Of The North)
Scottish artist Andrew Wasylyk with an incredible and hauntingly beautiful album. Early contender for album of the year.
Murray Scott (Ubik)

fLako
Lonely Town (Karizma Rework)
(Unknown)
Just an unbelievably beautiful slab of lazy, hazy, shimmering soulful majesty.
BigRedAl (LATE NIGHT BIGNESS)

Bill Brewster
Love Hard
(Spechen)
A slice of chopped up low tempo space disco from Mr Brewster. This head nodder is complete with ethereal choral/soundtrack vocals giving it a stripped back Axelrod vibe.
Tim Walker (Love is the Message)

Ali Berger
Keys To The Door EP
(FCR)
Detroit’s Ali Berger releases an EP of killer old School tracks with a huge nod towards Chicago on Fat Cat’s house & techno label FCR. All killer no filler. The pick of the bunch for me is Badlands with its squelching 303’s
Andy Simms ( Tuesday Club)

Octo Octa
I Need You
(Technicolour)
Octo Octa is Maya Bouldry-Morrison, she hails from New Hampshire, now based in Brooklyn and has been releasing music since 2011. This is fucking huge.
Jim Lister (VERSION)

Jukka Eskola Soul Trio
Tiny B
(New Look)
7 inches of 7/8 vinyl Hammond jazz style bossa conjuring up lounging in hip cocktail parties
Justin Langlands(Organised Sound)

Koffee
Throne
(Columbia Sony)
Koffee is a talented 18 year old from Kingston in Jamaica and is already a global reggae superstar. She follows up last years massive singles Raggamuffin and Toast with a more authentic roots reggae track called Throne which features a heavy sample from Bunny Lee.
Kris (Venum Sound)

Tommy Tickle & Silent K
Regenerating Night Cream (Two Tail Remix)
(Sprechen)
Dreamy ethereal 2step meets 90s Renaissance, I sh!t you not. Out now.
Mike Bradbury (Balearic Ultras)

Nubiyan Twist
Jungle Run LP
(!K7)With artists like Tony Allen, Pilo Adami & Mulatu Astatke joining the 10 piece UK band, it was always going to be a special album. From afrobeat to hip hop, jazz to soul, there are many tracks worth shouting about on this LP, but the title track is definitely a stand out moment for me, blending soul, jazz, broken beat, synths that uses tempo so effectively to build a musical journey.
Matthew Davids

Sillyboy’s Ghost Relatives
In a Small Place (Mudd’s Extended Mix)
(Claremont 56)
A deep, drowsy, certifiable ear-worm from Greece based artist Sillyboy’s Ghost Relatives. Claremont 56 are the label that keeps on coming up with the goods for me.
Dan Storey

Jennifer Touch
Chemistry
(Riovtan)
A perfect fusion of ’80s sounding synth-pop and new wave from Berlin’s Jennifer Touch. Her ice-cool vocal delivery and production is reminiscent of the equally wonderful Perel.
Clara Suess (INTER-MISSION)

Andy Bey
Shades Of Bey
(KoKo Music)
Andy Bey’s classic CD only album from 1998 gets a long overdue 20th anniversary vinyl reissue courtesy of KoKo Music. Contains his majestic cover of Nick Drake’s Riverman that adds even more soulful depth to an already masterpiece.
Chewy Beatwell (What’s Wrong With Groovin’)

Daniel Maunick
One Nite Stand (A Vicious Circle EP)
(Far Out Recordings)
Gorgeous foot tapping house vibes available March 1st on a super-exclusive 300 pressing vinyl release.
Kerry Jean Lister (Feel Up)

A Man Called Adam
Ou Pas – Farmarama LP
(Other Records)
Farmarama sounds like Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones have taken their back catalogue and deconstructed it. Name-checking pioneers Wendy Carlos, Delia Derbyshire, Pauline Oliveros, Daphne Oram, and Laurie Spiegel, along the way. Mixing the resulting sometimes asymmetric building blocks with clank, glitch, and digital fizz, to reconstruct something fresh. Music that references their Acid Jazz origins, yet has all its beats broken in a 21st century way.
Mickey Duke

Doron Segal
Black Hole Sun
(Village Live Records)
Composed by Chris Cornell ( Soundgarden ), this cover comes off The Addition to Strangeness LP, the first Jazz LP on Village Live Records.
Leon Ricciardi (Jazzology Radio Show)

The Comet is Coming
Summon the Fire
(Impulse!)
King Shabaka, Danalogue the Conquerer and Betamax Killer step it up a gear on this high intensity taster for their Trust In The Lifeforce Of The Deep Mystery album, due mid month on Impulse!. The face-melting blast of their live shows is captured brilliantly on this cut – a euphoric/signature Shabaka Hutchings horn ear-worm over rumbling bottom heavy synth and propulsive drums. How many brilliant bands can one man be in at one time ffs!?
Ian Lawton (Trainspotters)

T-Flex

T-Flex
Mimic EP
(Null + Void)
A Bold and exciting debut showing a flair for paring a deep sub bass with quirky off kilter rhythms and Grooves.
Lisa Lohan

F.G.T.H.
Relax (Lasso’s mix – Alkalino rework)
(Audaz)
Recommended by fellow 1BTN disco devotee Damian Harris this rework makes me tingle as much as Frankie and Co did back in 1983. My LGBT+ family may have come a long way since a certain radio DJ tried to ban us but this tune reminds me of the grit and glory that got us where we are today. Priceless. And very relaxing. Most suitable for my 50th year.
Kate Wildblood

Hifi Sean feat Paris Grey
Lost Without You (Horse Meat Disco Extended Mix)
(Glitterbox)
One of my anthems of 2018 gets the HMD re-work and it’s heavenly – but then with this amount of bear action onboard it was always gonna be as sweet as (disco) honey.
Queen Josephine

MADMADMAD
Garn
It’s short punchy and to the point. Dance music with a punky feel Oh and the video is great.
Spikey Kingston

The Lemonheads
Cant Forget
(Fire Records)
A hazy trip down memory lane with this version of the Yo La Tengo track. Evan Dandos honeyed vocals sounding better than ever.
Senor Mick (Garden Of Earthly Delights)

Cotonete
Super-vilains LP
(Heavenly Sweetness)
This nine track offering confidently straddles everything the band are known for; jazz fusion, balearic disco and integral soul-funk grooves. Keeping those early influences close, but now with more mature characteristics from the likes of: Herbie Hancock, Patrice Rushen and other 70’s Blue Note O.Gs.
JG (Vision On)

Santiago Córdoba
Red
(Sounds and Colours)
Blissed out folktronica that brings you up and right back down again. Emotional, ephemeral and ecstatic.
Patrick Robinson

Hayes Carll
Times Like These
(Dualtone)
Countryfied rock’n’roll, shooting form the hip and aiming at the powers in office. Carll returns in peak form with his album What It Is.
(Whiskey Preachin)

Flamingo Pier
Hold It
(Soundway Records)
My February show opener. Light, warm, ever-evolving groove track, that sucks you in, bounces you along and deposits you gently on the other side. Great EP too.
BigRedAl (LATE NIGHT BIGNESS)

Kapote
Brasiliko
(Toy Tonics)
This mid-paced beauty from the label that can do wrong, has lived in my head this month. Riding the groove is jazz fusion keys, underpinned by Brazilian nods, with super tight production, very interesting progression and all round aceness.
BigRedAl (LATE NIGHT BIGNESS)

KH
Only Human
(Ministry Of Sound)
Kieren Hebden, sampling Nelly Furtado, this will sound ace in da club.
Danny Webb

Solange
When I Get Home
(Columbia)
It’s been a long wait but so worth it. Her personality is across every track (she co-wrote and co-produced the whole album) while giving her guests space to add their own flavour. More of a grower than ASatT – and without any stand out instahit songs like Cranes In The Sky – it’s a satisfying record that reveals something new on every listen.
Kerry Jean Lister
